Unfinished Business

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD

Unfinished Business is a web series about corruption that plagues the City of Philadelphia. From the street level all the way to the system level. Everyone has a hand in the violence even the Cops. I have only seen the first episode so far, but it seems like a great series, especially if you want to see a locally made film. If you love drama and want to see the dark side of Philadelphia, I would definitely check this one out.

The scene selection that Director Mike B. chose were on point. I really love that the director included numerous shots of Philly such as: City Hall, William Penn’s Statue and the establishing shot of the city neighborhood to the city skyline. The director also wanted to show Philly in the actor’s point of view. I really love the different film locations.

The director really used the close up shots on the one thing everyone in the short film is after… money. The characters all made clear that the goal is to get as much paper (money) as possible and the director chose the right shots for the scenes.

The lighting was done really well. The one scene that I really love was with the Police Detective on the phone in the dark at the Police Administration Building (The Roundhouse). As he is walking, he is on the phone, the police red and blue lights that were flashing on him while being in the dark. This gave me a dark feeling that the detective really is up to no good, while also showing the dark side of the law.

The music choice was great and really fit the setting of the series. My only issue was the sound of the dialogues. At times it sounded low and I couldn’t really hear what was being said.

Overall, Unfinished Business is a very addicting, locally filmed and a serious short drama web series that I would recommend you checking out. I only reviewed the first episode so far, but I can see that the series progressing. It’s very different to see the dark side of Philadelphia and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
