On Monday, May 17th, City Council in Philadelphia will start deliberations on a new budget proposal set forth by Mayor Kenney. Due to the shutdown of the city by the COVID-19 infections, the city is set to lose an estimated $649 million dollars due to the stay at home order that was put into effect to quell the infection rate and to save as many lives as possible.

According to the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, the new budget proposal will cut grant funding through the Office of Representative. This would defund the Greater Philadelphia Film Office and other departments within the vital film field.

The Greater Film Office of Philadelphia reported that 1/5 of their budget was a city grant.

Indirect spending from the film industry benefits businesses across the city, affecting tourism, construction, material suppliers, hospitality, restaurants, recreation, and more. This spending generates tax revenue for the city at large.

TAKE ACTION! || Encourage City Council to continue funding the local film industry. Our people, businesses, and economy depend on it now more than ever. Your words can help us make a difference. For details visit www.film.org/savephillyfilm|| #SavePhillyFilm #GPFO
