The Lion King Review

In A Nutshell: “What Can’t Beyoncé Do?”

The new Lion King is mediocre but is surely a fun time none the less. It’s cheesier then I can remember the original being… or maybe the cheesy comedic timing is just off in this movie and that’s the problem. It feels lazy and like it isn’t adding anything new to the story. The only reason I see why this was made, was to make a butt load of money, which it succeeded at.

But it was also very cut, surprisingly funny, and very heartfelt, but nothing more. It’s very bland and unforgettable, like the sequels to the OG Lion King back in 94.

The highlight of this movie was definitely Timon and Pumbaa. Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are an incredible duo and had me laughing every time they were on screen. They should definitely work together more.

Also, Beyoncé is killer and her voice is just too awesome and beautiful. It overpowers everyone else. In the song, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”, it’s a debut between her and Simba (Donald Glover) and she went off so hard that it sounds like Donald Glover is whispering all of his verses. It’s kinda messy.

Another huge feat of this movie is obviously the visuals. It is stunning and the animals like wildly realistic, but it kind of takes away from the charm of the original Lion King.

Verdict

In conclusion, it’s the perfect movie to see in the day time when the tickets are cheaper and when all the kids are there so you can see how astounded and entertained they are.

6/10
