I thought Ready or Not was gonna be stupid, poorly made and a Blumhouse corny ass wet dream, but boy was I wrong. Blumhouse wished it made this movie. Ready or Not nails that creepy, over the top, but fun and silly tone. It is the perfect horror-comedy genre movie. It’s just so good at what it is, and I’m not saying this is a cinematic masterpiece that challenged the form of video, I’m just saying it is unapologetically itself and works really well. It’s a lot better than a lot of films trying to fit in that horror-comedy genre.

The tone is spectacular. The story progression is meticulous and everything just makes sense. The comedy is laughable and the scares are the kind that makes you go eek and hide in your chair. You’re not actually scared, but it’s that fun kind of scared where you are making yourself scared.

The performances are good, the special effects are cheesy but they work really well. This movie is just a great example of a one-off genre-based film. You don’t need a genius concept to make a great film, it can be done with a simple game of hide and seek.

This is a smaller film, with no big-name actors or directors, but it’s great as a horror movie and it has a mainstream feel. It’s not like an “indie horror”, it’s something anyone could watch and enjoy. It’s one of those movies where you just stop thinking for an hour and a half.

I really enjoyed myself. It’s a perfect end of summer movie or a Halloween preparation movie.
