What is the MET GALA?
The MET GALA is an annual fundraising gala event that is put on by Vogue, that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institue in New York City. The Met Gala is an annual symphony of art, fashion, film, and music where members from fashion, film, music and other artistic industries come together for the museum’s latest exhibition launch.
What makes the GALA significant each year?
The Metropolitan Museum of Art recently announced its new inspiration for the Costume Institute for 2019: ‘Camp: Notes On Fashion’. The theme is inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay ‘Notes on ‘Camp’, which is widely credited to have introduced the notion of ‘Camp’ to the mainstream. The essence of Camp is its love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration,’ Sontag once explained.
What Happens in the GALA?
Celebrities get to tour the Museum and enjoy a formal dinner, as well as a cocktail hour! Pretty cool right?
What’s this year theme?
Each year’s event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition, and the exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night since guests are expected to choose their fashion outfit, to match the theme of the exhibit.
How much is a ticket to the GALA?
Chairwoman of the event Anna Wintour from Vogue stated that each ticket cost a whopping $30,000! Ms. Wintour also stated that tickets were raised by $10,000, due to “keeping the exclusivity” of the event.
Who are the host(s) this year?
The event was hosted by Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Serena Williams, and Alessandro Michelle.
