“Shia LaBeouf is a National Treasure”
Honey Boy is phenomenal. It is so far my favorite of the year, and I don’t see anything beating it. I have nothing but good things to say about this movie. It is so beautiful, so cathartic, so heartfelt and raw and so separated from the ego and narcissism that comes with child fame.
This movie really cuts deep, it’s about Shia’s relationship with his father growing up in which he plays his own father, it’s so meta yet so needed. I love this movie because on one level it is just a good movie, if you knew nothing about Shia or that this was a take on his life, it would still a fantastic movie. But the fact that it is inspired by true events adds a new level. A layer of he needed to make this, this movie is a sort of healing, a way to deal with your problems.
And those are my favorite movies. I think every piece of art should be personal, and the artist should be afraid to show it to others. This is such a raw baring of Shia
Alma Har’el is an amazing Director, I had not known her before this but she did such a groundbreaking job she’s my new idol, I believe this is her first narrative feature too so I’m like ba-boom, wowzers. Also, Shia is a HELL of a screenwriter, oh my god. It’s amazing I can’t believe. I think both should get Oscars noms for this but they probably won’t.
Now the performances.Me oh my the performances. Noah Jupe plays young “Shia” aka Otis and he blew it out of the fucking water. This little bitch is so, so, so talented he had me crying. You know who else had my crying, my main bitch Lucas Hedges, amazing work from him as always.
I guess my only qualm would be I want more Lucas hedges but that’s just cuz I love him. Shia also was magnificent, the best I’ve ever seen from him. Also, FKA Twigs is in this movie and she is great and I also love her. I don’t know what else to say all of my love in my heart goes to this movie.
